    - but is there a way to make part of a poly's path one color, and the rest of its path a different color?  Does my mind deceive me, or have I seen this been done in an SVG before?
        - ahh, perhaps "cloned" objects can allow it?  "cloning" is Inkscape's way of expressing the
          underlying way SVG can use <transform> and links to display the same path multiple times in the same document.

                - why can't we independently change the color of the clone?

                - OOOOH, you can....  it's just that the base "cloned" object has to be set to
                  "?"/undef...  and then any clones of it can have a separate unique color...  so if
                  you want two separate colors, you actually have to have three different shapes
                  (granted, one can be hidden behind the others...)
    actually, [[Image:Canada (geolocalisation).svg]] is a better image to start with
