Sprint 2 evolved from Gran Trak 10 and Gran Trak 20, but included a microprocessor (the 6502), a first for racing games. This allowed Sprint 2 to include two computer-controlled cars, better graphics, and more tracks. Sprint 2 was the first in a long series of games, some of which bore its name into the 1980s. Sprint 1 was released in 1978. The "1" and "2" designations reflect the number of players, rather than indicating it was a prequel. Later follow-ups included Super Sprint, Championship Sprint, and Badlands, each released in 1986. == External links == * Commentary from GameSpy * Commentary from Phosphor Dot Fossils * Entry at Arcade-History.com * Entry at CAESAR * Entry at Killer List of Videogames * Entry at the Arcade Flyer Archive * Entry at coinop.org * Entry at EmulationStatus * Entry at ArcadeClassics.info * Marquee artwork at MAME.net http://www.thelogbook.com/phosphor/1970s/t1.gif how fuckin' cool is that? http://caesar.logiqx.com/php/emulator_game.php?id=mame&game=sprint2a good images http://www.thelogbook.com/phosphor/1970s/ good commentary http://www.gamespy.com/articles/488/488750p1.html lots of great comentary - first microprocessor-based racer - built on a MOS Technology 6502 http://www.icwhen.com/book/the_1970s/1976.shtml http://www.cgexpo.com/bios/dkoble.htm designed by Dennis Koble http://www.icwhen.com/book/the_1970s/1976.shtml released November 1976
